Community Acupuncture: A More Affordable Way to Experience Acupuncture

Have you ever wanted to try acupuncture but wondered about the cost? Or have you experienced its benefits and wished you could come more consistently?
At Saint Acupuncture on St. Simons Island, I am exploring a way to help address those concerns: community acupuncture.
As the owner of Saint Acupuncture, my goal is to make acupuncture accessible to more people throughout the Golden Isles, including those who may find traditional private appointments difficult to fit into their budget.
What Is Community Acupuncture?
Community acupuncture is a treatment model in which several patients receive acupuncture in a shared, peaceful space rather than in separate private rooms.
Patients typically relax in comfortable recliners and remain clothed. The practitioner selects appropriate acupuncture points based on each patient's needs while maintaining professional standards for safety, privacy, and care.
Because multiple patients can be treated during the same period, community acupuncture can be offered at a lower cost per visit than private, one-on-one treatment.
Three Reasons to Consider Community Acupuncture
1. Affordability
Community acupuncture may make treatment more accessible for retirees on fixed incomes, individuals receiving Social Security or disability benefits, families managing expenses, and anyone looking for a lower-cost option.
2. Consistency of care
Some conditions may benefit from a series of acupuncture treatments. A lower price per session may make it easier for patients to follow a recommended treatment schedule, although individual results vary.
3. An introduction for first-time patients
If you have been curious about acupuncture but haven't tried it, community acupuncture could provide a more approachable starting point.
Community vs. Private Acupuncture
Private acupuncture offers a dedicated one-on-one environment with more time for detailed discussion and individualized treatment.
Community acupuncture takes place in a shared environment, with a streamlined treatment process and less opportunity for lengthy individual conversations during the session.
Both models use acupuncture. The difference is primarily how care is delivered, the treatment environment, and the cost. The most appropriate option depends on each patient's needs and circumstances.
Meet Sarah Thomas, DACM
I am Sarah Thomas, owner of Saint Acupuncture. I earned my doctorate in Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine from Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in San Diego and my master's degree from Dragon Rises College of Oriental Medicine in Gainesville, Florida.
After practicing in Jacksonville, I relocated to St. Simons Island and took ownership of Saint Acupuncture in April 2024. I am committed to providing compassionate care and exploring ways to make acupuncture more accessible to our surrounding communities.
In addition to acupuncture, Saint Acupuncture offers StemWave therapy, massage therapy, and a Chinese herbal apothecary.
Could Community Acupuncture Be Coming to Saint Acupuncture?
I am exploring the possibility of introducing community acupuncture, potentially beginning with a small treatment area and sessions during slower clinic hours.
I would love to hear from people who might be interested, whether you are considering acupuncture for the first time or looking for a more affordable way to maintain consistent care.
Would you try community acupuncture? Contact Saint Acupuncture on St. Simons Island and let me know what you think.
Acupuncture is not a substitute for appropriate medical evaluation or treatment. Individual results vary, and treatment suitability is determined on a case-by-case basis.
